ABC Schedules Grey's Anatomy Spinoff
By: Groshan Fabiola
It’s Official! Finally, there is clarity and confirmation to the broadcast of the highly anticipated Grey’s Anatomy spin-off series, Private Practice.
The new medical drama will be taking the Wednesday niche at 9 pm, going against the police drama Criminal Minds and NBC’s upcoming science fiction series Bionic Woman.
Previously, the Grey’s Anatomy spin-off has generated quite some noise with its numerous pre-release promotions and its gradual revelation of its cast members and even its title.
Looking back, the buzz over the spin-off all seems typical given that it sprouted from highly popular program. But when you think about it, all the publicity, whether good or bad, has become highly crucial not only in promoting the new series but in finding its audience as well.
Despite the fact that Private Practice has been rooted from the Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning series Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice intends to target yet another breed of audience. And although having a different hoard of viewers may have some advantageous factor to it, it may also be very challenging to create and establish a solid following just like its origin.
With Private Practice taking off, many viewers have become highly skeptical of what the more melodramatic series could offer. With the back pilot entitled "The Other Side of This Life," which served as an introduction for the spin-off, an average of 21 million viewers has watched to see Addison take a leave of absence from her work at Seattle Grace Hospital for a gig at Los Angeles’ Oceanside Wellness Clinic. Not bad for starters.
Private Practice features Grey’s Anatomy character Addison Montgomery, played by Kate Walsh, and other cast member such as Amy Brenneman (Judging Amy), Paul Adelstein (Prison Break), Tim Daly (Wings), Taye Diggs (Day Break), Chris Lowell (Veronica Mars) and Merrin Dungey (Alias).
